Safeguarding is an integral part of our School ethos, and all staff receive training on how to keep our young people safe.

Our DSLs are trained in line with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council requirements. They have both undertaken additional training with other relevant organisations, and all training is refreshed annually.

To promote a safe environment for our pupils, all relevant checks are made in accordance with Safer Recruitment guidance, and we will only work with agencies who have strict recruitment procedures. The Island Project does not use agency staff for day cover, and only uses preferred supplier recruitment agencies for the recruitment of permanent staff. All new staff undergo an extensive training programme which lasts up to 3 months and covers all aspects of safeguarding, autism awareness, school ethos, ABA, communication and sensory input.

The procedures which the School covers are in line with the relevant Local Safeguarding Children's Partnerships for the relevant placing authority, and our overarching procedures are in line with Safeguarding Solihull.
